Councilman J.P. Lyninger district 6 chose to endorse candidate Aprile Hearn who, at the time of this article, is running for Metro Council District 5.
J.P. Lyninger is the current sitting council person on the democratic caucus representing district 6. Also sitting on the democratic caucus is Donna Purvis representing district 5. Councilwoman Donna Purvis is currently up for re-elction. There is a Democratic Caucus rule that a caucus member cannot endorse or support a candidate outside of the caucus. This violation of the rule was formally brought to everyones attention by Councilman Brent Ackerson district 26.
The Democratic Caucus will respond and decide whether or not Lyninger will be kicked out of the democratic caucus. Councilman Lyninger stated that he doesn't believe that this rule is defensible. The next Democratic Caucus meeting is several weeks away from the time of the posting of this article.
Politicians have looked weak in the face of such natural disaster, with many facing criticism from local residents.
For those affected by flooding however, their immediate concerns are not necessarily about the manmade changes to the earth’s atmosphere. A YouGov poll from February found that while 84% of those surveyed believed Britain was likely to experience similar extreme weather events in the next few years, only 30% thought it was connected to man-made climate change.
There is no evidence to counter the basic premise that a warmer world will lead to more intense daily and hourly rain events. When heavy rain in 2000 devastated parts of Britain, a later study found the climate change had doubled the chances of the flood occurring, said Julia Slingo.
